Woodland Honey
Our Helmsdale Hives 100% Raw Woodland Honey is a multi-floral honey, blended only by the bees. Multi-floral means the bees collect nectar from a huge range of wild flowers, plants and trees before processing this into Honey in the Beehive.
All Helmsdale Hives Honey is packed batch by batch, meaning every drop of Honey in our jars comes direct from a single apiary, blended only by the bee's themselves direct in the hive. This produces a range of different colors, textures and flavors in our products.
Our honey is produced from our own bee farm in the green highlands of Waipu, as well as sourced from local beekeepers across Northland, New Zealand.
The Supermarkets are full of competing brands selling processed Honeys, often blended with corn syrups and added sugars. It's important to read the labels on the containers to differentiate processed Honeys from 100% Raw Natural Honey. The more raw and more natural the Honey, the better it is for you.
Pasteurized Honeys will also have decreased benefits compared with 100% Raw Honey, as this is a heating process. Heating 100% Raw Honey above temperatures of 37°C will begin to deteriorate the natural health benefits and nutritional value, leaving only its sweet flavoring behind.
Generally speaking the darker a honey is, the more health benefits it contains. This is not always true however for specialist mono-floral products such as Mānuka Honey, which fall under certain regulations in New Zealand and for export.
Our ‘Woodland’ range of Light, Medium & Dark Honeys all have unique flavors, from soft and creamy to mellow sweet, and strength in bite. Like all raw & natural honeys, these flavors and colors will differ from farm locations and seasonal conditions.
All our Honey is packed in liquid form, but crystallization will begin to re-form over time. This is a completely natural process. To restore your honey to it's liquid state simply apply a gentle heat, keeping the honey under 37°C. Click here to learn more about crystallization.
